Week 1 – Christmas and New Year’s from a box

Okay so long story short. Christmas me and Elder Gibb were scheduled to be released. Not to be. I get a call on Christmas Eve that on my 3rd test (they tested me two more times) I tested positive for COVID (I had Covid 2 months ago so naturally, it still comes up) Because it was international they wouldn’t take my documents so I had to hardcore quarantine another 10 more days in an isolation facility. I live with a man who actually has Covid. So that was fun, but there’s been a real purpose for it. I’ve learned a lot the last week and am really ready to get out and serve. I also got to teach my roommate. I had a friend of a friend who could help translate and teach him because they both speak Russsian. It’s been an interesting experience. We also found another really cool girl we’re teaching from Kenya. She has such great faith! She bore her testimony to us of the Holy Ghost and she is searching to know more and more truth.
Yesterday I studied about fasting and thought what it is. At first I thought of it maybe being going without something you need but I think of us being invited to do social media fasts. I think this meaning of the term is resisting what we are inclined to do. Our body wants to eat, sleep, stimulate our brains with phones, and a lot of other things. When we put away the distractions that cause these inclinations, then we can focus on what is most important in our lives, that of eternal significance. I thought of missionary work as a fast. Not doing all the things that I want to do and think I should be doing for a time to focus on what is most important. I realized my testimony of fasting, in that we really do grow spiritually through fasting. The first time I remember very distinctively was at a fast and testimony meeting while listening to someone bear their testimony. I know that we can be guided by God through the spirit and I know that fasting brings us spiritual strength.
Love you all and I’ll see you in the next one!!
